What is divorce mediation?

Divorce mediation is a confidential process that involves a third-party neutral, who could be a divorce lawyer or financial expert who helps the couple reach an agreement on all aspects of the divorce. The mediator helps to encourage cooperation between the two people, but the agreement is really developed and approved by the couple.

Collaborative divorce is more structured than mediation. Each person has an attorney to help them along the divorce process, but the couple agrees not to go to court.

how long does a typical meeting last?

A mediator can meet with the client(s) for 2 to 4 hours at a time for several meetings. The mediator will charge a fee per hour and fees are normally paid prior to each meeting.
